Ари, Дов и остальные отправляются на бой.► Исход представляет собой крайне редкий пример фильма, правдиво, реалистично и объективно описывающего масштабное событие современной истории, восстанавливая его во всей многогранности. Чтобы добиться такого результата, необходимы по крайней мере 3 козыря: безупречная драматургия, способная уместить в несколько часов экранного действия невероятно сложное переплетение обстоятельств, сюжетных линий, конфликтов; набор выразительных и не похожих друг на друга персонажей, достаточно хорошо прописанных для того, чтобы заинтересовать зрителя даже в отрыве от исторического контекста; наконец, операторская работа, на каждом этапе достаточно живо воссоздающая в настоящем времени текстуру драмы, которая, хоть и является частью недавней истории, рискует застыть в серой безликой документалистской гамме или же, напротив, в отвратительных и фальшивых пасторальных тонах. Будучи превосходным драматургом, Преминджер при помощи Далтона Трамбо сумел добиться ясной и простой гармонии в составных частях этой запутанной ситуации, изложение которой ни на секунду не теряет прямолинейной направленности. Ни один аспект этой ситуации - исторический, героический и даже рекламный (поскольку одиссея «Исхода» была направлена главным образом на то, чтобы привлечь внимание мировой общественности к судьбе евреев, жаждущих обустроиться в Палестине) - не затерялся. (Следует также отметить, что этот эпизод - 1-й, где победа достигается совместными усилиями 2 противоборствующих организаций, борющихся за создание Израиля, - предвосхищает финальную победу и, в этом смысле, имеет ключевое значение.)Будучи превосходным романистом, Преминджер также сумел вдохнуть жизнь в целый ряд живых, человечных, разнообразных и убедительных персонажей, отражающих разные точки зрения на общую драму: в фильме действуют 2 английских офицера (генерал-гуманист и марионеточный антисемит), выражающие противоположные взгляды Британии на евреев; расколотая изнутри еврейская семья (борец за свободу Израиля и 2 враждующих брата); сторонние наблюдатели (медсестра-американка, которая становится участницей драмы после того, как долго наблюдала за ней издали); юный араб, павший жертвой своих либеральных взглядов; 2 молодых еврея, глубоко погруженных в трагедию своего народа: террорист Дов Ландау и девушка-подросток Кэрен (ее играет Джилл Хейуорт, которую Преминджер, как и Джин Сибёрг для Святой Иоанны, Saint Joan, выбрал из множества претенденток).
